Read Right from the Start is driven by the 2020 Promise – our vision to provide every early childhood educator in Georgia the skills to effectively prepare our children to meet, or exceed, 3rd grade reading level requirements by 2020. That promise is made possible in part by Cox Campus. Supported by a $3.5 million dollar grant from the James M. Cox Foundation, Cox Campus removes the financial and physical barriers to educators’ professional development by providing a portal for universally accessible, free online continuing education.

Cox Campus currently includes complete Read Right from the Start coursework for preschool and pre-K teachers. These courses are certified by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) for continuing education credits, but that is only the beginning. Courses for teachers of infants and toddlers and kindergarten-3rd graders will launch in coming months. In partnership with public and private organizations throughout the state, the Rollins Center for Language & Literacy at the Atlanta Speech School is working to have all Georgia educators of children birth through age 8 enrolled in Cox Campus by 2020. Teachers from around the country are invited to take Read Right from the Start’s online courses and embrace these strategies in their own classrooms. Read Right from the Start strategies are already used by teachers throughout Georgia and by Teach for America pre-K educators across the country. In Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, Cox Campus is used to train all pre-K teachers. Contact us today to learn more about the Cox Campus or Read Right from the Start.
